How To Wear A Work Appropriate Outfit When It’s Freezing?

Hello there,

Winter is coming here.  Unfortunately, most of us can’t work from home; which means we have to get our asses off the bed, get dressed, and above all, we have to dress work appropriately.  This can be a huge undertaking when it’s 0°C outside and when it’s dark when you get out the door.  You know what I’m saying?

But just because it’s dark, and cold, and raining, and realllllyyyy difficult to be a responsible adult (ugh!), it doesn’t mean we have to go through all that unstylish.  Right? So here are some looks  that you can get some inspiration from for the next 2 months of winter – probably 3 if you’re Belgian 😉

Trench coat and pant suit

Nothing revolutionary, but boy it’s pretty!  And classy.  And empowering.  I don’t know why, but anytime I wear a trench (or a long) coat I feel way more confident.  Don’t get me started on  the pant suit…  And if you want to protect yourself from the cold, the coat will definitely do the trick.

10 Things You Didn’t Know About… Oscar de la Renta

Hey there,

Oscar de la Renta makes the news today.  Three days ago, he would have turned 84 years old.  Five days ago, Peter Copping announced that he would leave the brand immediately.  So I thought it would be nice to get to know the late designer a little better!

  1.  Oscar de la Renta was born July 22, 1932 in the Dominican Republic and died in Connecticut at the age of 82, after a long battle with cancer.  When he was 18, he travelled to Madrid to study painting at the Academy of San Fernando.  How did he get into fashion?  When he was in Madrid, he was enlisted by Cristobal Balenciaga to sketch for him.  Afterwards, he went to Paris and worked at Lanvin; and then he moved to New York in the early 60’s and set up his own label [1,2].

Cannes 2016: My Top 10

Hey there,

So sorry for the long absence, but things have just been so hectic!  I hope your past few weeks were better than mine.

But something did manage to cheer me up: le Festival de Cannes.  Some of the most memorable looks happened during the festival’s past editions.  So I was very excited to see what was coming up this year!

The Belle of the (Met) Ball

Hey there,

Hope you’re all doing fantastic!  So on Monday was the Met Gala 2016, organized for the benefit of the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute in New York City.  I love the Met Ball, because it really is an opportunity to see dramatic dresses and fashion risks.  At least, that’s the way I see it.

There’s a new theme every year, and the guests are supposed to dress according to that theme.  This year, the theme was: “Manus x Machina: Fashion In An Age Of Technology“. So, how well did they do?  Here’s my top ten (+ 1) 🙂

For The Love of Heels

Shoes.  High heels.  After diamonds, I think they are a girl’s best friend… So that makes them a girl’s second best friend.  Good enough for shoes, right?  And since we can’t all afford diamonds but that we all have shoes, that makes them our first best friend.  Seems pretty logical to me!

Now, as you probably guessed by now, this post is dedicated to shoes.  My shoes.  My newly-purchased-on-sales shoes.  And I might have slightly overdone it this time, I bought three pairs of stilettos… One pair from Essentiel-Antwerp, one pair from Vic Matié, and another from Irene Costa.

Special Post: Blake Lively’s Press Tour

Hello there,

How are you doing today?

I know that I’m late, but in this special post I wanted to talk about the stunning, the statuesque, the gorgeous fashionista: Serena Van der Woodsen Blake Lively.

The new mom has been promoting her new movie, “The Age of Adaline”, and she’s been killing it with her outfits. Every time, it was classy, sexy, beautiful… but also super different and original. And that’s why I wanted to dedicate this special post to her very fashionable press tour.

All right, let’s face it, there are plenty of great designers out there. And if your name is Blake Lively, I’m pretty sure that you could wear any designer’s outfit you want. So, she could have been wearing Chanel, or Gucci at every single event; but I think she wouldn’t have made quite a statement.  Don’t get me wrong, I’m a huge fan of Chanel, Gucci, Dior, and the like; but so is everyone. Hence, if you wear them, you kinda play it safe, don’t you think? So instead, she took major fashion risks: regarding prints, regarding colors, regarding cuts, etc. (Granted, she wore many pieces that she sells on her website Preserve, but still).

Enough talking, let’s have a look at Blake’s magnificent promotion tour looks. I love the fact that every outfit is super different from the other: she wore coats, she wore high-waisted pants, she wore purple, she wore prints, she wore skirts, she wore long dresses, she wore short dresses, … And she was stunning. Every. Single. Time.

How To Wear The Oversized Sweater?

Bonjour les ami(e)s,

Today, I’ll write about an easy but stylish look.  Oversized sweater + skinny jeans + boots = a winner.

If you lack inspiration (it happens to everyone), or if you feel lazy (it happens to everyone), just throw an oversized sweater over a pair of skinny jeans, and you’re good to go.

How To Wear An All-White Look – In Honor of Wimbledon

Hey there,

How are you?  Are you super-duper-sad about friday’s game?  I know I am… And I want to get over it as fast as possible!  Lucky me, there’s Wimbledon to make me feel better.

If you know a bit about this mythic tennis tournament, you probably know that it has a very specific dress code.  In London, players have to wear an all white ensemble.  The organization is pretty strict about it.  A couple of years ago, some female players had to change bras because they were not all white.  Too much?  Maybe, but this dress code is also what makes Wimbledon so epic.  And just for the anecdote, this year had also its lot of controversy with the Nike “nightie” dress.
